Perimenopause Body Odor: How Green Juice and Chlorophyll May Help From the Inside Out

Have you noticed that your body odor has changed during perimenopause? Maybe your deodorant doesn't seem to work the way it used to, you're sweating more than usual, or you've noticed a stronger or different smell even though your hygiene routine hasn't changed. You're not imagining it. Perimenopause body odor can be one of those unexpected changes that catches women completely off guard.

And while there's no magic juice that can eliminate body odor, I believe in looking at midlife wellness from the inside out. That's one reason I love incorporating fresh, nutrient-dense green juice into my routine. If you're ready to make juicing easier and more consistent, my Ultimate Juicing Bundle is a great place to start. It includes 4 complete juicing ebooks with more than 60 recipes, plus nutrition information including calories, macros, fiber, sugar, and sodium so you can take the guesswork out of juicing.

Why Does Body Odor Change During Perimenopause?

Let's talk about what may actually be happening.

Perimenopause is the transitional stage before menopause when reproductive hormones, particularly estrogen and progesterone, fluctuate. These hormonal changes can affect much more than your menstrual cycle.

Women may experience changes in:

  • Body temperature

  • Sweating

  • Night sweats

  • Skin

  • Sleep

  • Mood

  • Energy

  • Metabolism

  • Vaginal health

  • Body odor

One reason perimenopause body odor can become more noticeable is increased sweating. Hormonal fluctuations can contribute to hot flashes and night sweats, which means your body may be producing more sweat than you're accustomed to.

And here's something important: sweat itself isn't necessarily what causes body odor.

Body odor develops largely when substances in sweat interact with bacteria on the skin. Changes in sweating, skin environment, hormones, diet, stress, and hygiene can all influence how your body smells.

That means you can shower regularly, use your favorite deodorant, and still notice a difference.

This is one of those perimenopause symptoms that isn't talked about nearly enough.

Perimenopause Body Odor Can Feel Different

Hormonal body odor doesn't necessarily smell the same for every woman.

Some women describe their odor as stronger, sharper, more pungent, or simply "different." Others notice that they sweat in places they didn't used to sweat as much.

You might even find yourself thinking:

"Why do I smell different all of a sudden?"

Welcome to midlife.

Your body is changing, and sometimes the changes show up in ways that nobody warned us about.

The good news is that there are several lifestyle habits you can incorporate into your daily routine to support overall wellness, hydration, nutrition, and healthy sweating.

And this is where I love bringing in green juice.

Can Chlorophyll Help With Body Odor?

You've probably seen chlorophyll supplements marketed as an "internal deodorant."

But let's separate the social-media hype from what we actually know.

Chlorophyll is the green pigment that allows plants to absorb light during photosynthesis. Many green vegetables contain chlorophyll, including leafy greens, broccoli, parsley, and other green plants.

There is some research and historical use around chlorophyll-related compounds and odor control, particularly in specific medical contexts. However, evidence that drinking chlorophyll or green juice directly eliminates everyday perimenopause body odor is limited.

So I'm not going to tell you that drinking green juice will magically make body odor disappear.

Instead, I like thinking about chlorophyll-rich foods as part of a bigger picture.

When you're juicing vegetables such as broccoli, leafy greens, cucumber, celery, and other green produce, you're getting a concentrated source of plant nutrients and phytochemicals.

And that's something I want more of in my midlife routine.

Green Juice for Perimenopause: Why I Love It

There are several reasons I incorporate green juice into my lifestyle during midlife.

First, it's an easy way to get a variety of fruits and vegetables into your routine.

Second, juicing can make it easier to consume certain produce that you might not otherwise eat in large quantities.

And third, I love having a simple ritual that supports hydration and helps me prioritize nutrient-dense foods.

When we're talking about perimenopause symptoms, I don't believe in looking for one miracle ingredient.

I think about the entire lifestyle.

That includes:

  • Adequate hydration

  • Plenty of plants

  • Protein

  • Healthy fats

  • Strength training

  • Sleep

  • Stress management

  • Supporting digestion

  • Eating a variety of colorful produce

  • Consistent movement

Green juice can be one piece of that puzzle.

The Connection Between Hydration, Sweating and Body Odor

If you're experiencing body odor during perimenopause, hydration deserves some attention.

Hot flashes and night sweats can increase fluid loss. If you're not replacing those fluids throughout the day, you may find yourself feeling less than your best.

Water should still be your primary source of hydration, but high-water-content fruits and vegetables can contribute to your overall fluid intake.

That's another reason I love ingredients such as:

  • Cucumber

  • Celery

  • Apples

  • Lemon

  • Lettuce

  • Leafy greens

Juicing these ingredients creates a refreshing drink that can make getting more produce into your day easier.

And let's be honest — when you're in the middle of perimenopause, sometimes making healthy choices needs to be simple.

I don't want another complicated wellness routine.

I want something I can prep, juice, drink, and move on with my day.

Green Juice and Perimenopause: 3 Recipes to Try

Now let's get to the fun part.

These are three simple green juice combinations that fit beautifully into a perimenopause wellness routine.

Each recipe contains only three ingredients.

Remember, juice isn't a treatment for perimenopause, hormone imbalance, or body odor. Think of these recipes as nutrient-dense additions to an overall healthy lifestyle.

1. Broccoli, Apple & Lemon Green Juice

This is one of my favorite combinations when I want a powerful green juice with a bright, refreshing flavor.

Ingredients

  • 2 heads broccoli

  • 2 apples

  • 2 lemons

How to Make It

Wash your produce thoroughly and cut the broccoli, apples, and lemons into pieces appropriate for your juicer.

Juice everything together and serve immediately over ice if you like it cold.

If your lemons are organic and your juicer allows it, you can juice some of the peel. Otherwise, peel them first.

Why This Juice Is Great for Perimenopause

Broccoli is a cruciferous vegetable and provides compounds such as glucosinolates, which are being studied for their role in overall health.

It's also a source of vitamin C, vitamin K, folate, and other nutrients.

Apples provide vitamin C and polyphenols, while lemon adds additional vitamin C and gives this juice its bright, citrusy flavor.

For women navigating perimenopause symptoms, this combination is a great way to add more cruciferous vegetables and plant foods to your routine.

And because broccoli is naturally green and contains chlorophyll, it fits perfectly into a conversation about chlorophyll-rich foods and body odor.

Again, I wouldn't call this an internal deodorant.

Instead, think of it as a nutrient-dense green juice that supports your overall wellness from the inside out.

2. Cucumber, Celery & Lemon Green Juice

If hydration is your priority, this is a fantastic simple combination.

Ingredients

  • 1 large cucumber

  • 5 celery stalks

  • 1 lemon

How to Make It

Wash everything thoroughly. Cut the cucumber and celery into pieces that fit your juicer and peel the lemon if necessary.

Juice all three ingredients together and drink fresh.

Why This Juice Is Great for Perimenopause

Cucumber and celery both have a high water content, making this a refreshing choice when you're trying to stay hydrated.

This can be especially appealing during perimenopause when hot flashes and sweating may make hydration feel more important.

Celery also provides vitamin K and other plant compounds, while lemon provides vitamin C and helps brighten the flavor.

If you're dealing with perimenopause sweating or night sweats, don't overlook the basics.

Hydration, balanced nutrition, sleep, and regular movement all matter.

And having a fresh green juice waiting in your refrigerator can make one of those healthy habits much easier to maintain.

3. Kale, Cucumber & Apple Green Juice

This one is for my leafy-green lovers.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups kale

  • 1 cucumber

  • 2 apples

How to Make It

Wash all of your produce thoroughly. Remove any tough stems from the kale if necessary, then juice the kale, cucumber, and apples.

Serve immediately.

Why This Juice Is Great for Perimenopause

Kale is packed with nutrients, including vitamin K, vitamin C, and carotenoids.

Cucumber brings hydration and a refreshing base, while apples add natural sweetness that makes the leafy greens easier to enjoy.

This is a great example of how you can combine chlorophyll-rich green vegetables with hydrating produce and fruit to create a juice that's both nutritious and enjoyable.

And that's important.

Healthy eating doesn't have to feel like punishment.

Especially in midlife.

Does Green Juice Actually Detox Your Body?

Let's clear up another common misconception.

You'll see a lot of people online claim that green juice "detoxes" your body or flushes out toxins.

Your body already has highly sophisticated systems for processing and eliminating waste, primarily involving your liver, kidneys, digestive tract, lungs, and skin.

So I don't use the word "detox" to mean that juice is somehow cleaning toxins out of your body.

What I do love about fresh juice is that it can be an easy way to increase your intake of plant foods and certain nutrients.

That's a much more realistic way to think about green juice for perimenopause.

You're not drinking a magical detox.

You're drinking plants.

And plants contain a huge variety of nutrients and compounds that can contribute to a healthy diet.

What Else Can Help With Perimenopause Body Odor?

If you're noticing changes in your body odor during perimenopause, green juice is only one piece of the puzzle.

Here are some other habits worth considering.

Stay Hydrated

Drink water consistently throughout the day, especially if you're sweating more than usual.

Wear Breathable Fabrics

Natural, breathable fabrics can help reduce the amount of moisture trapped against your skin.

Shower After Sweating

If you're strength training, walking, doing BJJ, or simply sweating from a hot flash, changing out of damp clothing and showering can help reduce the environment where odor-producing bacteria thrive.

Pay Attention to Your Diet

Everyone responds differently to foods, but certain foods can influence body odor in some people.

If you notice a consistent relationship between a particular food and changes in your body odor, keep track of it rather than automatically eliminating entire food groups.

Support Your Overall Wellness

This is the big one.

Don't focus so intensely on body odor that you forget the bigger picture.

Your midlife wellness routine should include adequate nutrition, movement, recovery, sleep, stress management, and hydration.

Why I Love Juicing During Midlife

I've been juicing for years, and one of the biggest reasons I continue to love it is convenience.

As women, especially during the busy years of midlife, we're often trying to do everything.

We're working.

We're raising families.

We're homeschooling.

We're exercising.

We're trying to get enough sleep.

We're trying to take care of everyone else.

Sometimes the hardest part of healthy eating isn't knowing what to eat.

It's actually doing it consistently.

That's why I created my Ultimate Juicing Bundle.

Instead of staring at your refrigerator wondering what to juice, you can have dozens of recipes and information in one place.

The bundle includes 4 ebooks and more than 60 juicing recipes, along with nutrition information including calories, macros, fiber, sugar, and sodium.

If you're ready to make juicing part of your midlife wellness routine, grab my Ultimate Juicing Bundle here and start building your own collection of go-to juice recipes.

What Juicer Do I Recommend?

Of course, having great recipes is only helpful if you actually have a juicer you enjoy using.

One of the juicers I've recommended for years is the Nama J2.

I love the convenience of a juicer that makes it easier to incorporate fresh juice into your everyday routine.

And if you've been thinking about getting one, you can save $60 on the Nama J2 Juicer with my exclusive code EVIE10.

That makes it a great option if you're ready to make fresh green juice a regular part of your routine rather than something you try once and forget about.

Can Green Juice Help With Hormone Balance?

This is another area where I want to be really clear.

Green juice does not replace hormone therapy, medical treatment, or individualized medical care.

But nutrition absolutely matters during midlife.

When your body is going through hormonal fluctuations, prioritizing nutrient-dense foods is a smart foundation for overall health.

Green juice can help you consume a variety of produce, but remember that juice is not nutritionally identical to eating whole fruits and vegetables.

Juicing removes much of the fiber.

That's not necessarily a bad thing — it's simply different.

I personally like using both.

I eat whole plant foods for their fiber and satiety while also incorporating fresh juice as another way to enjoy a variety of produce.

What About Chlorophyll Supplements for Perimenopause Body Odor?

You may be wondering whether you should buy a liquid chlorophyll supplement specifically for perimenopause body odor.

Personally, I would start with food.

Green vegetables naturally contain chlorophyll, along with a variety of other nutrients and plant compounds.

Think:

  • Broccoli

  • Kale

  • Spinach

  • Parsley

  • Romaine

  • Cucumber

  • Celery

  • Other green vegetables

Instead of chasing one isolated supplement, I prefer building a diverse diet.

And if you love green juice, that's an incredibly easy way to make more vegetables part of your routine.

When Should You Talk to Your Doctor About Body Odor?

Most changes in body odor aren't something to panic about.

But a new, persistent, or unusual body odor that doesn't seem connected to sweating or normal lifestyle changes is worth discussing with your healthcare provider, particularly if it's accompanied by other new symptoms.

Body odor can be influenced by many things besides hormones, including medications, diet, infections, metabolic conditions, and other health issues.

So if something feels significantly different, don't automatically blame everything on perimenopause.

Your doctor can help determine whether there's another explanation.

Your Midlife Body Is Changing — And That's Okay

Here's what I want you to remember.

Perimenopause can change things you never expected.

Your sleep can change.

Your body composition can change.

Your temperature regulation can change.

Your skin can change.

Your mood can change.

And yes — your body odor can change, too.

That doesn't mean you're doing something wrong.

It doesn't mean you're dirty.

And it definitely doesn't mean you need to become obsessed with masking every change your body is going through.

Instead, let's look at the whole picture.

Hydrate.

Eat nutrient-dense foods.

Move your body.

Lift weights.

Prioritize recovery.

Get enough sleep.

Manage stress.

And find simple habits that make healthy living easier to maintain.

For me, fresh green juice is one of those habits.

And while there's no guarantee that drinking chlorophyll-rich green juice will eliminate perimenopause body odor, adding more green vegetables, plant nutrients, and hydration to your routine can be a positive part of an overall approach to midlife wellness.
